OUR MISSION IS TO MAKE BIRTHS SAFER

WE NEED YOUR HELP

Join Eden's Gift in Bringing Safer Childbirth to Colombia

Eden's Gift, a nonprofit 501(c) organization, was founded by a family who lost a baby due to the lack of resources available in Colombia.

In memory of a lost baby named Eden, we’re embarking on a mission to empower midwives and enhance maternal care in Colombia. With a focus on providing essential tools, technology, and comprehensive support from pregnancy to postnatal care, we aim to bring about positive outcomes and ensure the well-being of both mother and child. Our goal is that no family faces loss due to a lack of resources and equipment.

TOO MUCH LOSS

As of 2023, Colombia has an infant mortality rate of 11.037 deaths per 1000 live births, which is more than double that of the United States. This statistic highlights the urgent need to address the factors contributing to infant mortality in Colombia. Rural mortality rates may be higher due to inadequate reporting.

in COLOMBIA BIRTH IS SACRED

In Colombia, birth is not just a physical event but also a deeply meaningful and transformative experience. By honoring the sacredness of life and recognizing the interconnectedness of the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of birth, Colombian midwives create a spiritual atmosphere through rituals, prayers, and blessings. This approach promotes the well-being of the mother and strengthens her bond with the baby.

Bridging
Medicine &
Spirituality

The presence of spirituality in the care provided by Colombian midwives offers additional support and comfort, fostering harmony, peace, and reverence for the miracle of life.

Moreover, for some moms, the clinical and impersonal nature of a hospital setting can be uncomfortable. Additionally, there are cases where mothers live too far away or face safety concerns that make accessing a hospital difficult or impossible. In such situations, midwives play a crucial role in providing essential care and support during childbirth.

tools are needed for safer births

In many parts of Colombia, access to well-equipped healthcare facilities is limited, making it difficult for midwives to provide optimal care. The lack of advanced medical tools and technology can pose risks during complicated deliveries. Additionally, limited access to prenatal care and education can hinder early detection and prevention of potential complications.

Crucial Equipment for Critical CARE

At Eden's Gift, our primary objective is to facilitate safe deliveries by providing midwives with modern equipment, medince and technology.

Our ultimate objective is to ensure Colombian midwives have access to a comprehensive selection of essential equipment. This includes items such as:

  • Birthing Kits: Pre-packaged kits containing sterile tools and supplies for safe deliveries.

  • Electronic fetal monitors: These advanced monitors allow continuous tracking of the baby's heart rate and the mother's contractions during labor.

  • Portable ultrasound devices: These handheld devices enable midwives to perform ultrasound scans even in remote areas, providing accurate fetal assessment.

  • Neonatal incubators: These specialized devices create a controlled environment to ensure the warmth and stability of premature or high-risk newborns.

  • Electronic blood pressure monitors: These devices provide accurate and convenient measurements of maternal blood pressure, ensuring timely detection and management of hypertension.

  • Pulse oximeters: These non-invasive devices monitor the baby's oxygen levels, helping midwives assess the baby's well-being during labor and delivery.

  • Electronic temperature monitors: These devices enable midwives to closely monitor the baby's temperature and detect any fluctuations or signs of hypothermia.

  • Suction devices to clear the baby's airways. These devices create a gentle vacuum or suction force to extract any obstructions that may hinder the baby's breathing. They are designed to be used in a controlled and careful manner to ensure the baby's airway remains clear and unobstructed, promoting normal breathing and reducing the risk of respiratory difficulties.

  • Electronic weighing scales: These precise scales help midwives accurately measure the baby's weight, an important indicator of growth and development.

  • Advanced resuscitation equipment: These devices, including ventilators and specialized resuscitation units, are used in emergency situations to support newborns with breathing difficulties.

  • Telehealth systems: These innovative technologies enable midwives to connect with healthcare professionals remotely, seeking guidance and consultation when needed.

  • Educational Materials: Resources that provide midwives with up-to-date information and guidelines for safe practices.

By providing midwives with this advanced technology-related equipment, we hope to ensure they have the necessary tools to provide comprehensive and safe care, even in challenging circumstances.

WE’RE
SAVING
LIVES
NOW

The impact of Eden's Gift's work has already been evident, as several babies have been saved due to our efforts, but we’re just getting started.

What’s NEXT?

As we look ahead, our future goals include constructing comfortable and secure facilities in the rural areas where mothers live. Our aim is to create inviting spaces prioritizing mothers' safety and well-being throughout their pregnancy and childbirth journey. By establishing these facilities, we strive to address the lack of accessible healthcare services for women in remote regions. Our vision is to provide mothers with a supportive environment that promotes a positive birthing experience, takes care of their overall health, and ensures the precious moments of welcoming new life are safeguarded. However, this is just the beginning of our mission, and we need support from generous donors like you to continue making a difference in the lives of mothers and infants in Colombia.
